The price of a welded structure is usually quoted as a single number, and that number explains nothing. Here it is taken apart — using the same figures the calculator on this site runs on.
Box section and sheet in Cyprus in August 2026 cost about €1.55 a kilogram to buy. The calculation uses €1.78: the steel comes from wherever it is in stock and nearby, not from wherever it is fifteen cents cheaper. One extra trip for a length of tube eats the whole saving.
About seven per cent is added to the weight for cutting: profile arrives in six-metre lengths and the offcut does not go into the job. A three-by-five-metre canopy holds €150–200 of steel — less than a tenth of the price.
An hour on site costs around €61 with margin and contingency in. A three-by-five canopy is fourteen hours: setting out, cutting, welding the frame, posts into concrete, roofing. Six metres of railing is nine hours. A ten-step staircase is fourteen.
That is the difference between "weld it" and "fit it". The same piece in a clear yard you can drive into, and on a third-floor terrace with no lift, are two different prices for the same amount of steel.
Powder coating runs about €1.20 per kilogram of finished structure, hot-dip galvanising about €1.15. The price difference is small, the difference in life is not: near the sea paint gives up in a couple of seasons, galvanising lasts years. Stainless costs one and a half to two times more than steel, but on the front line it is the only honest option.
The drive costs what it costs, whether the work is one hour or six. The minimum order is €100 around Larnaca, €150 to Nicosia and Limassol, €200 to Paphos. Two small jobs on one visit are almost always cheaper than the same two apart.
On top of cost come a 28% margin and a 20% contingency. The contingency is hauling steel to the site, generator fuel, wear on the gear, and redoing a joint that did not sit right the first time. None of it shows up in a quote, and all of it happens.
