Window grilles
in Cyprus —
security without the cage look.

Grilles for windows, balcony doors and ground-floor light wells. Fixed where you store things, hinged with a lock where you sleep. I measure every opening separately and weld the frame to the real size — openings are rarely rectangular.

Grilles I make

A grille is chosen room by room, not house by house. In a store room only strength matters; in a bedroom the escape route matters too; on the street facade so does the look.

/ 01

Fixed grille

Box-section frame with 12 mm vertical bars, anchored into the wall. The cheapest and the toughest — for store rooms, plant rooms and bathroom light wells.

/ 02

Hinged with a lock

Hinges and a lock that releases from inside without a key. The only sensible choice for a bedroom or a child's room: in a fire the window has to open.

/ 03

Cross pattern

Vertical bars tied by horizontals. Much harder to lever apart, and visually quieter than a dense lattice.

/ 04

Wrought design

Scrolls, rosettes, twisted bar. For stone houses and facades that will not carry an industrial look. The pattern is agreed before anything is cut.

/ 05

Mesh in a frame

Welded mesh instead of bars. Lighter and cheaper, and it also stops objects being posted through — good for light wells and basements.

/ 06

Air-conditioner cage

A cage around the outdoor unit or the meter. Same profile and same coating as the window grilles, so the facade does not end up looking assembled from spare parts.

What actually makes a grille work

A grille rarely fails at the bar. It almost always comes out together with its fixing — which is why the anchoring matters more than the thickness of the steel.

80+ mm anchors

Chemical or expansion anchors deep into the structural wall — not into render and not into insulation.

🔩

Frame inside the reveal

The grille sits back in the opening: the anchors cannot be reached from outside or cut with an angle grinder.

🚪

Escape route

In a bedroom — hinged only, with a lock that opens from inside without a key.

Galvanising near the sea

On a coastal facade painted steel bleeds rust down the wall. There I use galvanised steel under powder coating.

Fixed or hinged?

A fixed grille is cheaper and never goes wrong, but it turns the window into a wall. In a room where somebody sleeps that is dangerous: if fire cuts off the hallway, the window is the only way out. The rule I follow: store room, plant room, bathroom — fixed; bedroom, child's room, living room — hinged, with a lock that opens from the inside.

Why the price here is approximate

What the page works out is an estimate, not a quote. The final figure is always worked out separately, because the same structure in two different places does not cost the same.

  • How easy the spot is to reach, and whether the van and the gear fit.
  • What it stands on and bolts to: wall, concrete, roof, soil — the condition of the base changes the job.
  • Where reinforcement is needed and where it can be done more simply — and come out cheaper.
  • How fast you need it, and how much preparing the site takes.

This is not factory production, where everything comes out identical, soulless and at the lowest price. Each piece is made for your particular spot. Write to me — we will go through where reinforcement is worth it and where it is not, and I will find an option that suits you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a window grille cost in Cyprus?
A typical 1.2×1.4 m window with vertical bars starts at €350 fitted. A hinged grille with a lock for the same opening starts at €500, a wrought design at €550. A small bathroom light well starts at €200. Send a photo of the opening with a tape measure to WhatsApp and you get a price the same day.
Can the grille open from the inside?
Yes, and on a ground-floor bedroom I recommend it. A hinged grille has hinges and a lock that releases from inside without a key — you can get out in a fire, nobody gets in from outside. A fixed grille costs less but closes off the escape route.
Will the house look like a cage?
That depends on the pattern and the spacing. 12 mm bars at 12–14 cm centres are barely noticed from inside: the eye looks through them, not at them. It is the dense traditional lattice that creates the cage feeling. I show variants before fabrication.
How is it fixed to the wall?
Into concrete and solid brick with chemical or expansion anchors at least 80 mm deep, with the frame set inside the reveal so the anchors are not reachable from outside. On an insulated facade I go through the insulation into the structural wall — otherwise the grille comes away with the render.
How quickly can it be done?
A survey on site, then 3–5 working days and one visit to fit. Openings are rarely truly rectangular, so I measure each one separately and weld the frame to the real size.
